Zero waste design is an umbrella term used for techniques that eliminate textile waste at the design stage. The goal is to maximize fabric usage through minimizing the waste during design development: “the average amount of fabric that is wasted when garments are cut and made is 15%, equivalent to 60 billion square meters.” (Timo Rissanen and Holly McQuillan, 2018). For this dress, a combination of draping and CAD was used in order to diagnose fit issues from the beginning of the design process.
